Are you agonising over what to wear on a first date? Let me guess, you would love to make the right impression but don’t want to look like you tried too hard. If you are making the arrangements then make sure you meet somewhere that doesn’t involve buying something new. If you’re thinking about meeting at a swanky chef hatted restaurant and you don’t have a cocktail dress, or the only shoes you have are trainers, it might be an idea to pick somewhere more low key.
Drinks After Work or Dinner: This hook up will normally involve a wine bar, pub, ‘cheap and cheerful’ or ‘middle of the road’ restaurant so here are some tips on what is great and not so great to wear.

We love this – great article!!!
All excellent advice, I specifically like “Do not wear anything too big or too small” as all this does is draw attention to your size, a first date is a lot nicer and easier for both people when you are comfortable with who you are as a person.
Great advice. Everyone wants to look and feel fabulous on a first date. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable. Loved the tips on clothes for a picnic as i’ve tried had trouble with short skirts in the past!
Presentation is absolutely key to making a good impression. Your date will have made an assumption within 10 secs of meeting you and likewise you to him/her. These impressions are based on your presentation/ appearance, personal grooming and interpersonal skills!
I once went out on a first date and the girl wore a dress that only just covered her top and bottom ‘bits’ if you know what I mean.. It didn’t work for me.. so that was the first and last date.. Ladies, have some dignity and at least leave something to the imaginations.Geoff
Guys, please read this!!! One of my dates turned up in stained crumpled clothes and all I kept thinking is he cant’t even look after himself, how would he ever look after me! I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
So no thongs….makes sense & explains the looks I got too! Thank you.
Great advice. I have a staple “first date” outfit – am a big fan of not wearing something new incase it doesn’t quite stay where it should or gets uncomfortable. I’ll be sorting through my wardrobe for a few “first date” outfits for different occasions based on these tips
Great advice, clothes maketh the man as they say.
So true! I love these tips!
Just remember that even if you don’t like it, people do make judgements and opinions based on what you are wearing.
